ABOUT KEY CLUB

What is Key Club?

Key Club is the oldest, largest student-led organization for high school students. It is non-profit, and teaches and spreads important values through community service to others. These core values include caring, character-building, inclusiveness, and leadership as officially adopted by the Key Club International Board in 2002. Key Club is a part of the community-service based Kiwanis International Family, and Key Clubbers develop into leaders through positive impact on their school and community.

Key Club came about from the visions of Albert C. Olney, California State Commissioner of Schools, and Frank C. Vincent, vocational education teacher. Together they established the first Key Club at Sacramento High School in California on May 7th, 1925.

Today, Key Club is represented in 30 different countries, primarily US and Canada,  with approximately 5,000 clubs. There are around 260,000 members, and with over 12 million hours of community service per year, Key Club International has become an organization comprised of multi-state districts, divisions, and individual clubs. The organization stays funded by the nominal dues paid by every member and generous contributions by Kiwanis International. District and International officers are high school leaders elected by members from conventions of district and international level.
